◼️ After losing to Sevilla 2-1 at Old Trafford, the former defender criticized the performance of the Chilean and called the elimination of United as “shocking.”
Rio Ferdinand said that Manchester United’s performance was “terrible” and pointed the criticism towards Alexis Sanchez after the Red Devils were eliminated by Sevilla in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16.
“They were terrible, I didn’t see this result coming (1-2), especially after the game against Liverpool [United won 2-1 in the Premier League last Saturday], because of the way they played”, the former defender said regardin the Red Devils to BT Sport.
“They looked like a defeated team, full of strangers. They played nervously and cautious from the start. In these games, you have to go and take the game by the neck. That requires personality, it takes character in this stadium. You have to give the fans something to scream about”, he added.
In addition, Ferdinand criticized the performance of Alexis Sánchez. “He looks like a shadow of the player he was in. At Arsenal he was the player that everyone looked for inspiration, he looks like a stranger on this team”, he said.
“When you go to a [new] team and play, you don’t lose all your talent, that’s what it looks like at the moment, somehow, I feel sorry for him, you could name him and the whole eleven as dissapointments.” he added.
For his part, Ferdinand’s former teammate Paul Scholes said that more investment in the squad will not be the best response for Mourinho’s men. “They keep spending money, they continue to spend a lot of money, and we keep saying they have three or four players [to have the whole roster]”, said the former midfielder.
