Irish UFC star Conor McGregor was charged Friday with assault and vandalism by New York police after wounding another fighter on the sidelines of an event about a mixed martial arts (MMA) fight in New York on Thursday.

A police spokesman reported that the 29-year-old sportsman was charged with three assault crimes after surrendering to the police station on Thursday night. He will be presented before a judge in Brooklyn this morning.

One of his friends, the Irishman Cian Cowley, was also charged with assault and vandalism, police said.

A video of the specialized website TMZ Sport showed McGregor and a dozen people entering the Barclays Center in New York, to an event to which he had not been invited. When the fighters boarded a bus, McGregor and his companions started throwing things at them.

Chiesa announced on Twitter that he will not be able to fight Saturday as scheduled.

“The New York State Sports Commission made the decision to annul my fight, I am destroyed”, he wrote.
