The Germans came with an advantage of 2-1 to the last day in the bullring in Valencia. Nadal, nevertheless, demonstrated all his hierarchy and gave life to Spain when overcoming Alexander Zverev by 6-1, 6-4 and 6-4 in two hours and 16 minutes.
Then, David Ferrer dramatically beat Philipp Kohlschreiber 7-6 (1), 3-6, 7-6 (4), 4-6 and 7-5 in four hours and 51 minutes. In this way, Sergi Bruguera’s team advanced to the semifinals with 27 consecutive victories at home.
Spain’s next rival will be France, who managed to leave Italy on the road after Lucas Pouille’s victory over Fabio Fognini in Genoa. The number one French won by 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (3) and 6-3 and made the first win of France as a visitor to Italy since 1927.
