Dramatic season finale for the Blazers. New Orleans has become the first team to qualify for the conference semifinals after winning Portland the fourth game of the series by 131 to 123 and completing a sweep that few expected (4-0).
Since the first round of the NBA playoffs was extended to seven games in 2003, it is the first time that a team ranked in sixth place or worse wins the first round to a seed with field advantage without losing any game.
It’s also the second time in the history of the Pelicans that the franchise wins a series of playoffs, just 10 years after the first time. In 2008, the then New Orleans Hornets defeated the Dallas Mavericks in the first round.
