AS Roma Will Try For Another Miracle To Overcome Liverpool FC

◼️ The Italian team must overcome the 5-2 suffered at Anfield if they want to reach the final in Kiev. The 3-0 over Barcelona gives them hope.

No team has traced a 5-2 defeat as a visitor in the history of the European Cups and the Champions League. This Wednesday at the Olimipico Stadium, Rome wants to be the first team to get it, especially after the epic 3-0 over Barcelona in the quarterfinals.

The last time this result was recorded in the first round of the competition was in the 1999-00 season, when Valencia eliminated Lazio with a 5-3 aggregate (5-2 and 0-1), but, on the margin of statistics, the last editions of the Champions have shown that nothing is unchangeable.

Liverpool has yet to lose to Rome in four games played for the defunct European Cup and the now Champions League (2V and 2E). One of those draws was in the 1984 final (1-1), with Liverpool winning 4-2 on penalties at the Olympic Stadium.

This is the tenth appearance of Liverpool in the semifinals of the Champions League. The Reds managed to advance to the final on seven of the nine previous occasions, losing only in the 1964-65 season against Inter Milan and in the 2007-08 season against Chelsea.

Instead, this is the first semifinal of Rome in 27 years since the 1990-91 campaign in which they eliminated Brøndby in the UEFA Cup. His only previous semifinal in the European Cup / Champions League was in 1983-84, eliminating Dundee United before crossing with Liverpool in the final.

The Italian side is the only team that has received only one goal at home for the Champions this season (5 matches). They have won each of their last four Olympic games (including two by 3-0), but have never won in five consecutive matches in the competition.

Meanwhile, Liverpool is the only undefeated team this season (7V 4E). The Reds have scored 38 goals in the competition, the highest number of any English team in a single season of Champions. In fact, since the new format was introduced in the 2003-04 season, only Real Madrid (41 goals in 2013-14) has scored more than Liverpool in this season.

In addition, Liverpool is the first team in the history of the European event that sees three of its players score eight or more goals in a single season (Salah 10, Firmino 10 and Mané 8). The Egyptian has scored in each of his last five Champions League matches, a feat that only Steven Gerrard had previously achieved in the English club (between October 2007 and February 2008).

Also, Roberto Firmino has been the fastest player to reach his first ten goals in the Champions League, with only 11 games (like Adriano). Only Cristiano Ronaldo (18) has participated in more goals than the Brazilian (16 with 10 goals and 6 assists) in the current season.

For his part, Edin Dzeko has scored in each of his last four Champions League games, the longest streak of any Roma player in the competition.
