South American Football Took A Step Back In Russia

◼️ Uruguay and Brazil will be the only representatives of CONMEBOL in the quarterfinals, the smallest amount since the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

The 2018 World Cup in Russia is showing some logic if you consider what the South American Qualifiers were. In the quarterfinals of this World Cup, there will be only two representatives of the CONMEBOL, and they are those who had the best campaign in the classification: Brazil and Uruguay.

It’s the first time since Germany 2006 that only two South American teams reach the third round. In South Africa 2010, Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay were eliminated only in that instance, while Uruguay advanced to the semifinals. In Brazil 2014, the place eliminated Colombia in the quarterfinals, while Argentina defeated Belgium.
