◼️ Several figures stood out in the matches that resolved the quarter-finalists of the World Cup.

The 2018 World Cup in Russia began with its defining stage in the round of 16 and the figures shone to take their teams to the quarterfinals, although others stood out in spite of the elimination.

This is the best starting XI of the round of 16:

Kasper Schmeichel (Denmark): the goalkeeper turned into a giant by covering the Luka Modric penalty in regular time that led to the definition from the 12 steps against Croatia. Then he stopped the shots of Milan Badlej and Josip Pivaric but did not reach to pass the round.

Benjamin Pavard (France): Argentina won by surprise 2-1 and the right-back, questioned in the previous game, took a spectacular shot that equalized the match against the useless stretched Franco Armani. The both gave greater value to their good work in the area.

Yerry Mina (Colombia): the defender said goodbye to the World Cup with three goals in consecutive matches and the last was for the agonizing 1-1 against England. His performance now makes Barcelona doubt about giving him on loan.

Diego Godin (Uruguay): he is heading to be one of the best defenders of the tournament. Solid, no doubt for the clearances, canceled any possible attempt by Cristiano Ronaldo in the celestial area.

Emil Forsberg (Sweden): the one that is different from the Swedish team, the one that changes the rhythm of an organized team. His shot was fortunate to deviate against the Swiss, but the goal was worth the quarterfinals.

Eden Hazard (Belgium): never gave up despite 0-2 against Japan and took the strings of Belgium in attack to finalize the comeback by 3-2. The Chelsea player starts to fulfill everything he promises.

Lucas Torreira (Uruguay): he never tires of running, poking, stealing balls, occupying spaces. The midfield engine in the team of Maestro Tabárez. He’s one of the great revelations of the World Championship that is shaping up to be in an ideal XI at the end of the tournament.

Willian (Brazil): Mexico’s speed game was overshadowed by the midfielder’s dynamic, key to generating Neymar’s first goal. They didn’t know how to stop him in the Aztec countryside.

Neymar (Brazil): they criticize him for his style, for exaggerating the mistakes, but Neymar always goes, tries, looks for the ball and faces. He seems to have left behind the doubts about his physical state and delights Brazil with another world cup.

Edinson Cavani (Uruguay): two against Portugal to put Celeste in the quarterfinals. A header from a true center forward striker in the first half, pure class in the complement to define with the inside foot in 2-1.

Kylian Mbappé (France): consecrating performance with only 19 years to eliminate Argentina. He accelerated thoroughly in control of the ball and generated the penalty of 1-0, marveled with his fantastic control and definition in the third goal and didn’t hesitate to enter the area by right in the 4-2 partial.
