As explained by Luis Rubiales, president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, the ex-Barcelona will not have a rescission clause and will begin work immediately.

The Asturian coach will be the relief of Fernando Hierro, who had to resume in a hurry the work of Julen Lopetegui, dismissed by the Federation just before the first game of the World Cup. The technician fought for the position with Quique Sánchez-Flores, Míchel Salgado, among others.
