FITNESS │ 10 Hours Of Biking A Week Can Help You Age Better In A Physical & Mental Way

Do you want to be one of those old people who are 90 years old and look 70?, because you could be one of the lucky ones because we have the secret, it’s that by doing more than 10 hours of cycling a week this is a possibility according to a new study by the University of Sydney. Apparently, those who perform these 10 hours, or their similar moderate exercise, have a high chance of having excellent living conditions after a certain age, not only physical, but also mental.

In the study, the Westmead Institute for Medical Research followed 1,500 Australian 49-year-old and recorded their health indices for the next 10 years, at the end of which those who did physical activity (such as cycling) had twice the quality of life than those who did nothing.

This activity helps to avoid diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, brain cancer, besides these people had an impeccable lucidity, something that is lost with age. The results indicated that those that had activity had a metabolism equivalent to 5,000 MET, while those that didn’t reach 1,000 MET.


The MET measurement has to do with the amount of oxygen you use during a physical activity, in moderate cycling you get 8-METs, which means you have 8 times more energy than people who are just sitting and doing nothing. To reach 5,000 MET you must do 625 minutes of exercise a week, or what is the same 10 hours, with it you will have 5,000 times more energy than you have at this time if you are a sedentary person.

The World Health Organization recommends at least 600 METs of physical activity per week, which is 75 minutes of cycling in a week.
