◼️ Boston goes to the American League Championship Series for the first time since 2013 after beating New York 4-3.

The Red Sox will return to the MLB American League Championship Series for the first time since 2013 after a dramatic 4-3 victory over the Yankees in Game 4 on Tuesday.

Rick Porcello pitched five good innings for Boston to win, while Christian Vazquez hit a home run, which proved to be the difference in the game. It was the second shortest homer in the Yankees’ stadium this season with 338 feet, according to The Athletic.

Boston closer Craig Kimbrel brought the game to a dramatic end in the ninth, loading the bases and allowing the Yankees to score two runs to shorten the lead to one, but a great defensive play over Gleyber Torres ended the game and the Yankees’ season.

The Yankees lost an elimination game at home for the first time in the last two seasons. They entered Tuesday 4-0 in those games over that span. The Red Sox will face the Astros in the ALCS, their first championship series since 2013. Boston went on to win the World Series that year.

The Red Sox (108 wins) and Astros (103) combined for 211 wins this season. The 211 combined wins are tied for the 2nd-most in any postseason matchup in MLB history.
