Akram to quit as BCB cricket operations chairman

Akram, as chairman of BCB cricket operations, has been on receiving end of criticism since Bangladesh’s failure in T20 WC

Bangladesh Cricket Board cricket operations committee chairman Akram Khan has decided to quit from the post.

The revelation was made by his wife, Sabina Akram, on social media platform Monday.

No official statement has been made by the BCB on former Bangladesh captain Akram’s decision.

The news went viral immediately after Akram’s wife made the post.

“Akram is leaving [BCB] cricket operations,” said Sabina’s post.

Sabina later while speaking to a few media outlets informed that the decision has been made by the family.

“Akram has spent a big time of his life in cricket. Working as a cricket operations chairman is hectic. We as a family thought he should now spend time with the family more, and hence this decision. He [Akram] will soon inform the decision officially,” said Sabina.

The media tried to reach Akram over phone, which was switched off.

The BCB is unaware of the drastic decision coming from Akram.

According to an influential director of the board, Akram is yet to inform the board of his decision to quit as BCB cricket operations chairman.

“It is surely his personal decision I believe, like his wife already said. Nothing has been conveyed to the board yet. We can only speak about it once he communicates with the board on the matter,” said a BCB high-up requesting anonymity.

Akram, as chairman of the BCB cricket operations, has been on the receiving end of criticism since Bangladesh’s massive failure in the T20 World Cup.

Bangladesh returned home from the ICC tournament winning just twice in eight games in qualifying and Super Six rounds of the competition.
