Four couples were getting married together in Nangarhar province of Afghanistan. There was music playing on the occasion of the wedding. The gunmen attacked to stop the song. At least two people were killed in the attack. 10 people were injured. This information was given in the report of BBC online on Sunday quoting local officials.
The attackers identified themselves as members of the Taliban. However, a Taliban spokesman denied the attackers’ claim.
The joint wedding was held last Friday night. A Taliban spokesman said two of the three gunmen who attacked the wedding party that night had been arrested. He said the gunmen did not attack the wedding on behalf of the Taliban.
An eyewitness told the BBC that four couples were getting married together in Surakh Road district of Nangarhar province on Friday night. At night, gunmen suddenly attacked the wedding. This caused casualties.
According to the same eyewitness, permission was sought from a local Taliban leader to play the recorded song in a place reserved for women. But in the middle of the night, a group of gunmen forced their way into the wedding. They try to break the loudspeaker. Gunmen opened fire when guests intervened.
Taliban spokesman Jabiullah Mujahid said the incident was being investigated. The Taliban ruled Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001. Then they banned music in the country. However, this time they came to power and have not issued any decree in this regard till now.
The Taliban’s rival in Afghanistan is the Islamic State (IS) militant group. IS is active in Nangarhar province. Earlier, IS claimed responsibility for several attacks in the province.
