DC Habibur says he hopes to resolve the matter through discussions
Two freedom fighters and a local journalist were assaulted by some district administration staff at a program on Friday morning.
They humiliated two freedom fighters and snatched a journalist’s mobile camera while he was filming the scene.
The incident took place in front of Narail district administration officials at the district’s Shilpakala Academy around 11am.
Freedom fighter Saifur Rahman Hilu said during the distribution of food packets after the discussion of “Narail free day” program, former deputy commander of District Muktijoddha Sangsad Advocate SA Matin went for taking food packet.
At that time, there was a quarrel with DC office Assistant Nazir Babar Ali over a trivial matter. At one stage, some DC office workers, including Babar, attacked them with chairs, he said.
Journalist Abdus Sattar said: “Several employees, including Assistant Nazir Babar Ali, were attacking the heroic freedom fighters Advocate SA Matin and Saifur Rahman Hilu. When I went there for taking videos some DC officials grabbed me and snatched my mobile. Though they returned the mobile after 2 hours, they deleted the video of the scene.”
The victims demanded exemplary punishment of the guilty.
President of Narail Press Club freedom fighter Enamul Haque Tuku said: “Two freedom fighters and one of our colleagues have been humiliated in the month of great victory. It is very unfortunate.”
A decision was made to file a case next Sunday, he said.
The incident was unfortunate and action would be taken against the culprits after investigating the matter, said Additional Deputy Commissioner (Overall) Md Fakrul Islam.
Narail Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Habibur Rahman said: “I have talked to everyone. The problem will be resolved through discussions with freedom fighters and journalists.”
