The High Court has directed to collect all kinds of revenue including arrears of Google, Facebook, YouTube, Yahoo, Amazon and other internet-based social media. A full copy of the High Court’s verdict, issued on November 8 last year, was released in the High Court on Thursday.

Justice Md. The High Court bench of Ashraful Kamal and Justice Rajik Al Jalil passed the verdict.

In the verdict, Google, Facebook, YouTube, Yahoo, Amazon and other internet-based social media advertisements, domain sales, license fees from all transactions, VAT, turnover tax, supplementary duty, value added tax and income tax, including all types of revenue collection and arrears.

In addition, every six months, Google, Facebook, YouTube, Yahoo, Amazon and other Internet-based social media through advertising, domain sales, license fees from all types of transactions, including VAT, turnover tax supplementary duty, value added tax and income tax collection of all types of revenue. The Board of Revenue was instructed to do so.

The court ruled that under Section 4 of the Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty Act 2012, VAT registration is mandatory on Google, Facebook, YouTube, Yahoo, Amazon and other Internet-based social media. In addition, under Section 65 of the Income Tax Ordinance 1984, Google, Facebook, YouTube, Yahoo, Amazon and other Internet-based social media are required to file income tax returns.

Barrister Mohammad Humayun Kabir Pallab appeared for the writ petitioners in the court. He was accompanied by Barrister Mohammad Kawsar, Barrister Md. Majedul Quader, Barrister Mozammel Haque and Barrister Sajjadul Islam.

Barrister Mohammad highlighted various incidents of tax evasion by attaching a newspaper report in 2016. Humayun Kabir Pallab, Barrister Mohammad Kawsar, Barrister Mohammad Majeedul Quader, Barrister Md. Six lawyers including Sajjadul Islam. They filed a writ petition in the public interest.
