During the golden jubilee of independence, BNP MP Harunur Rashid addressed the National Assembly on behalf of Pakistan in the face of discussions and criticism about the Pakistan cricket team’s visit to Bangladesh and flying the flag on the field. He said that it is not right to show hostile attitude towards any country.
Harun addressed the issue at the Point of Order in Parliament on Saturday. Speaking on behalf of Pakistan, Harun came under fire from the ruling party. While he was speaking, members of the ruling party protested loudly. Later, in response to his statement, State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said that their character has come out in the way MP Harun has spoken on behalf of Pakistan.
At the point of order, Haroon said, ‘Bangladesh is currently hosting an international cricket tournament. Pakistan and Bangladesh. Pakistan cricket team is playing with Bangladesh. No matter what Bangladesh plays, Pakistani supporters are flying their flag. An embarrassing situation has arisen around this. Remember, they are guests in our country. Our country’s cricket, our country’s football, our country’s girls are playing all over the world. Doesn’t the flag of Bangladesh fly there? ‘
Aaron said, “That day I saw a member say hate speech in various ways.” At that time, members of the ruling party started shouting and protesting against Harun’s statement. Haroon said, ‘Pakistan team did not need to come. Why did you let the Pakistani team play? He would not let me play. There was no need. You have given them permission. They came here. That’s not right. It is not right to be hostile towards a country. This is not an honor for us, not a glory. ‘
Quoting from Bangabandhu’s speech at the UN in 1974, Harun said, “Bangabandhu said that India, like Burma, is trying to turn its back on the past and establish new relations with Pakistan. He did not refrain from any attempt to remove the bitterness of the past. We have written a new history of peace cooperation in the subcontinent by pardoning 195 war criminals. We have shown our sincerity.
When the members of the ruling party made a big fuss at that time, Harun drew the attention of the Speaker and said, ‘I talked about Bangabandhu’s speech, if you interfere here too, then what else can I say Hon’ble Speaker. I didn’t say anything, I just read his speech. ‘
After that, Harun brought up the issue of former BNP MP Abdul Momin Talukder, who was sentenced to death for war crimes. Quoting verses from the Qur’an, Harun said that it is absolutely sinful to kill someone without witnesses. Abdul Momin Talukder, Member of the 8th and 11th Parliament, was 18 years old then (in 1971). He went to the UN Convention with the President in 2011.
At that time Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury said, ‘Honorable Member, you cannot talk about any trial here. Judgment has come, you sit down. ‘ His mic was later turned off.
Later, standing at the point of order, State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury responded to Harun’s statement. He said the way BNP MP Harunur Rashid spoke in Parliament on behalf of Pakistan showed his true character. It has been proved that they are speaking on behalf of Razakar, Al-Badr, Al-Shams and doing politics, they do not have the consciousness of liberation war of the country.
Khalid Mahmood said that after killing the father of the nation, Ziaur Rahman not only nurtured the killers, but also damaged the constitution to introduce Pakistani rule in Bangladesh. He has tried to destroy the character of the liberation war of Bangladesh. They are still doing politics in the same vein. Harunur Rashid presented the proof of this in Parliament today.
