The United Arab Emirates has announced that it will invest 10 billion in Turkey.

The announcement came during a visit to Turkey by Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan (MBZ) of the United Arab Emirates.

Abu Dhabi Development Holding chairman Mohammed Hassan al-Suwaidi was quoted in local media on Wednesday as saying that the United Arab Emirates had allocated 10 billion (75,828 million rupees) for investment in Turkey.

Turkey and the United Arab Emirates signed a number of cooperation agreements on Wednesday during the visit of Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan (MBZ) to Ankara. On that day, MBZ arrived in Ankara and was welcomed by the country’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The Crown Prince of the United Arab Emirates arrived in Turkey on his first official visit since 2012. He is considered the de facto leader of the emirate and the determinant of the country’s foreign policy.

Agreements were reached on cooperation in a number of areas, including trade, energy and the environment, as well as direct investment in Turkey.

On the same day, an agreement was signed between Abu Dhabi Development Holding Company PJSC (ADQ), United Arab Emirates State Investment Fund, Turkey’s Asset Fund (TWF) and the President’s Investment Office. Agreements have also been signed between the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange and the Turkish Stock Exchange.

In addition, the United Arab Emirates has agreed to invest in various sectors in Turkey.

The UAE has recently noticed the way the Turkish defense sector is moving forward. In particular, Turkey has built drones, missile defense systems, warships and unmanned military vehicles with domestic technology. The various weapons manufactured by the country have already shown success. For these reasons, the UAE wants to reduce its distance from Turkey.

Meanwhile, Turkish officials have called the MBZ visit a “beginning of a new era”.

Turkey has blamed the United Arab Emirates for undermining Ankara’s interests in Libya and for financing a failed military coup in 2016. Since then, the two countries have been at loggerheads. In addition, there are differences of opinion between the two countries regarding Syria and Qatar.

Tensions between the two countries have already eased. Tahunun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE’s national security adviser, visited Turkey in August. After that came the news of huge investment in the visit of the prince of the country.
