The Great Barrier Reef, the largest coral reef in the world, is ‘endangered’ due to the effects of climate change. But even in this, scientists are giving good news. They say that new corals are being born again in the coral reef. Coral breeding occurs every year. This year too they have witnessed such incidents.

Scientists say all coral sperm and eggs were released simultaneously off the coast of Cairns, Queensland, Australia, on Tuesday night, CNN reported. In it there is an incarnation of an extraordinary scene of color.

The Great Barrier Reef, the largest coral reef in the world, is located in the Coral Sea off the coast of Queensland, Australia. Due to its scientific and natural importance, the place was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1981.

Gareth Phillips, an Australian marine biologist, says new life does not make some people happier. The birth of a new coral is the biggest proof of this.
A research center called Reef Tech is doing research on the birth of corals. Phillips and his colleagues are conducting research on behalf of the center. This group includes different types of people like biologists, students, photographers. They have been taking pictures of corals under the sea since last Tuesday.

The images and videos they will capture will help scientists monitor this year’s coral production. From this picture, UNESCO will be able to know about the situation of Great Barrier Reef. This will allow it to avoid the World Heritage Committee’s ‘endangered rating’. Scientist Phillips has compared the discovery of coral reefs to the discovery of hidden treasures this year.

Coral breeding in the Great Barrier Reef is a coordinated annual effort. Corals tend to split most of the year. But at some point in the year, corals release sperm and eggs into the ocean together.

Scientist Phillips added that the coral larvae floated away before landing and settling on the ocean floor. Different species of corals breed in this way for several days at different nights.

According to the Great Barrier Reef Foundation of Australia, each coral has to find another coral of the same species for reproduction. So at the same time this sperm and egg release occurs in the coral. This usually happens from October to November. However, it often depends on the temperature and the flow of water.

Scientist Phillips said the birth of a new coral in the face of climate change is a promising aspect.

Earlier in June, UNESCO recommended that the Great Barrier Reef be inscribed on the World Heritage List. They say Australia has not done enough to protect the Great Barrier Reef from the effects of climate change.

Scientists say the main cause of damage to the Great Barrier Reef is rising sea temperatures. This is due to global warming due to excessive use of fossil fuels.
