She was also a professor and dean at the State University of New York and was the first lady dean at the University of Washington.
The American Academy of Nursing honored her achievement with a scholarship in her name – one of the nation’s highest nursing honors. And in 1994, she named her a Living Legend, a designation bestowed by this association on those who have contributed to the development of the profession.
She has been the inaugural president of NASSSN – National Association of Spanish – Speaking Spanish – Surnamed Nurses in her professional life and career. Later on, it turns into NAHN.
